John Leguizamo’s Super Mario Bros. Anniversary Message
Come tomorrow, the 28th of May, 2013 it’ll mark 20 years since the release of the movie “Super Mario Bros”. Now, over the years I’ve read so much negative press over this movie like it was worst movie ever. You see, when this movie came out I was only 10 and I could not wait to watch the movie. When I finally did get to watch it, did I come out of the theater bitching like a self-conscious mid-century brat? Absolutely not. I saw it more as new entry to the Super Mario world and not as a failure that didn’t live up to the games we’ve already played. As a kid, Mario 1, 2, 3, World, 64…they were ALL new entries to the Mario world we grew up loving. No game was JUST like the other. Each game brought in new innovation or a new experience and when I saw Mario & Luigi launch off in those super-cool jet boots I was like “WOW, that’s awesome!” I didn’t say “Hey…that never happened”. Now, 20 years later, and with John Leguizamo looking awesome at the age of 48…I’m like, one: I’m glad I have Spanish/Latino blood flowing thru me because I’m going to look just as good when I’m 48 as I do now. Two: Super Mario Bros. is one of the coolest movies out there and celebrating 20 years since it released proves it. Eat that losers.
